Demanding criteria for labelling

The criteria are extremely demanding and stand for a high quality standard. "Furniture Made in Germany" is therefore proof of the high product quality of German furniture manufacturers. The award also stands for innovation, for reliability and safety, for durability as well as for a responsible view of the environment and sustainability and for healthy living.

 

Evidence must be provided for the following requirements for the "Furniture Made in Germany" label according to RAL-RG 0191:

 

  • … for the design performance
  • … the manufacturing process
  • … to determine the proportion of production in Germany
  • … to ensure the product quality
  • … on the raw materials used, no illegal logging, overexploitation, exploitation
  • … on compliance with environmental regulations and occupational safety
  • … on fair remuneration for employees, no child labour
  • etc.

External monitoring of the requirements

The label "Furniture Made in Germany" was developed and introduced by the German Institute for Quality Assurance and Labelling (RAL) together with the Association of the German Furniture Industry (VDM).

 

Compliance with the requirements is regularly monitored - on behalf of the VDM - by the German Furniture Quality Association (DGM) through independent experts on site.
